Through the week we brought you coverage of a push by Borgward into the Gulf states, now comes news that the German car brand’s EV concept has picked up the German Design Council Award.
The brand, which has a history that traces back to the 1920s, is looking to establish itself on the global stage in coming years.
And one vehicle that could be coming our way is the Borgward BXi7 electric SUV.
Still a concept at this stage, the vehicle (as seen above) was recently named the winner of the 2018 German Design Council award.
The brand is no stranger to the sought-after award – previous Borgward winners included the BX7, BX5, and BX6 SUV coupe concept.
The German Design Council experts recognized the Borgward EV concept for its innovative styling and typically German look and feel.
Borgward say the BXi7 concept SUV is close to production ready and is expected to feature a drive range of up to 500km and a 30-minute charge time for an 80% charge.
While the all-wheel drive SUV will boast 200kW/400Nm outputs.
Anders Warming is the Global Design President at Borgward Group AG, he says the latest award win means a lot to the company.
“We regard this as an additional incentive to continue creating automotive design that exemplifies the paradigm shift that is taking the auto industry toward electric mobility.”
We will bring you more details and updates on Borgward as further info comes to hand.
