Borgward continues global expansion

German car manufacturer sets up shop in Gulf states

The Borgward name may not be the first German car company that springs to mind, but you’re likely to hear more about Borgward in coming years.

The Stuttgart-based car manufacturer was founded originally in 1929, it ceased operations in the 1960’s and was then revived, with the help of Chinese investment, in 2008.

Debuting its first new model in 2015, the BX7 SUV, the operation is now looking to establish itself in global markets.

Borgward has just announced it has set up operations in the rich Gulf states and has shown its now two model range at the Dubai Motor Show.

Those two models include the aforementioned BX7 (seen in the photos) and the smaller BX5 SUV.

Tom Anliker is the Senior Vice President of Global Marketing, Sales and Services at Borgward Group AG, he says there are big opportunities for the brand in the Gulf states.

“Borgward has a very attractive offering and GCC customers will benefit from a greater choice of top vehicles in their market.

“Customers in the Gulf states and throughout the Middle East region have a taste for the kind of vehicles we build.

“With our BX7 and BX5 models and a network of excellent car dealerships, we are very confident that we can build a solid customer base in the region within the next few years.”

  • Powered by 167kW/300Nm 2.0 litre turbo-diesel engine

  • Available in five and seven-seat configurations
