Plug-in hybrid BMW sports car now in dealerships.

We doubt it will ever match the Toyota Corolla for sales volumes, in fact BMW says numbers will be strictly limited, but it’s still kind of cool to note that the BMW i8 is now available in Australia.
The plug-in electric sports car comes with a price starting of $299,000 and those limited customer deliveries will start in February. With that hefty price tag though comes some pretty amazing technology.
The BMW i8 is powered by a 170kW/320Nm 1.5 litre turbo-charged three-cylinder petrol engine that drives the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.
Driving the front wheels is a 96kW/250kW electric motor that draws its energy from a 355 volt lithium-ion battery pack. Combined output is a maximum 266kW and 570Nm and a sprint from 0-100kmh can be conquered in just 4.4 seconds!
With fuel consumption as low as just 2.1L/100kms and a host of luxury appointments inside the carbon-fibre passenger cell, the new BMW i8 is sure to turn plenty of heads if you’re one of the lucky few to get one in their garage.
