The limited-edition BMW HP4 Race has been declared 2017s ‘Best Sportsbike’ by respected publication, Cycle World.

Only 750 examples of the bike will be built and they’re racetrack-only, the publications judges telling us the 215hp BMW offering is the best of the best.

“In a world of super superbikes, the BMW HP4 Race takes it a step beyond. It is in many ways more exotic than those machines raced at the pinnacle of the sport in World Superbike.

“The 377-pound (171 kilogram) HP4 Race weighs, for example, only 7 pounds (3.17 kgs) more than the World Superbike-class minimum weight limit, and that’s with a full tank of fuel.

“Such is the glory of the bike’s carbon-fibre frame, swingarm, and wheels.

“Some things are too fantastic to be common. The HP4 Race is one of those things.”

Michael Peyton, Vice President of BMW Motorrad North America, welcomed the recognition.

“We are extremely proud to receive this coveted award from Cycle World right out of the gates with this bike,”

“The HP4 pushes the boundaries for racing performance in ways that were previously unimaginable; and it advances motorcycle technology in ways that will benefit riders across our entire model range, both on and off the track.”
