BMW confirms 2017 5 Series plug-in hybrid

BMW to add another hybrid to line-up in 2017 with new 5 Series…

As we’ve been reporting (details here) there’s a new-generation BMW 5 Series on the way, now comes confirmation BMW will add a plug-in hybrid version to the range.

Confirmed for an official debut at next month’s Detroit Motor Show in the U.S., the hybrid model will be known as the BMW 530e iPerformance.

At this stage there is no official word that the plug-in hybrid BMW 5 Series will be available in Australia, we will keep you updated.

BMW tell us their latest hybrid (following on from versions in the 2 Series, 3 Series, 7 Series and X5) will deliver fuel consumption as low as just 1.9l/100km and an electric drive range of up to 50km.

The BMW 530e iPerformance boasting a 70kW/250Nm electric motor mated to a 135kW/320Nm 2.0 litre petrol engine.

Most importantly, especially in the 5 Series, BMW tell us the technology makes no real impact on available boot space.
