BMW Australia has introduced its latest plug-in hybrid model with the new BMW 740e iPerformance arriving in dealerships.
Sure to be a hit with company car owners, the BMW plug-in hybrid 7 Series will be priced from $229,000 and offers fuel consumption as low as 2.2L/100km and an electric-only range of around 48km.
That electric range is above what is offered in the other two plug-in hybrid models recently launched by BMW in Australia, the X5 xDrive40e and 330e.
Under the bonnet of the new offering, which is based on the 740i, is a 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is mated to a synchronous electric motor.
Combined, the hybrid 7 Series offers a substantial 240kW of power.
While the lithium-ion battery pack, located under the rear seat, takes around five hours to fully charge from a standard home/office power supply.
That charge can be sped-up to 2.5 hours with the optional BMW I Wallbox.
BMW tell us the battery pack still allows for a generous luggage capacity of 420 litres.
While standard features in the 2017 BMW 740e iPerformance include:
- Nappa leather upholstery
- 19” alloy wheels
- 16-speaker harman/kardon surround sound system
- Professional Navigation with Gesture Control
- Electric side blinds
- Digital Radio
- Head Up Display
- Reverse camera
- Soft-close function for doors
- Glass Sunroof
“The new 7 Series has already set new benchmarks for innovation in its segment,” said Marc Werner, BMW Group Australia Chief Executive Officer.
“Now with the 740e iPerformance, we reinforce our commitment to a greener future, without sacrificing the performance and luxury expected of our 7 Series flagship.”
