Brooke and her husband are looking for a luxury SUV…
Hi team, we are at the start of a quest to find our new family car/SUV.
We normally go with BMW’s because my husband is a fan, this time around he wants a new BMW SUV.
The thing is, I don’t want something that big as I end up doing most of the driving and I am also told that BMW SUVs aren’t as good as their cars. Is this true?
We don’t need seven-seats, specifically - though if they are there they will probably get some occasional use.
What do you think? Is there a smaller SUV we should test, is it the Mercedes-Benz CLS? Should we get two cars, like a BMW 3 Series and a Toyota or something like that?
A bit lost! Brooke.
Hi Brooke, thanks so much for the email and we hope we can help. Firstly, we have never heard or found that BMW SUVs are anything less than the other fine vehicles in their line-up.
Your husband might be thinking BMW X5, yes, it is fairly sizeable, but if you only need the five seats then an X3 or the even smaller BMW X1 could be options. We have driven both and were quite impressed, especially by the recently updated BMW X1.
The X1 is certainly not a big and bulky SUV and we reckon it is one you should check out for sure (we are sure your husband will like it too!)
We think you might be thinking the Mercedes-Benz GLC. Again, a very good option and one worth checking out.
There was also certainly plenty of excitement around the office when we discussed your options for the Porsche Macan. This, we believe, is a must-drive for you and the pricing is pretty similar to the other models (it certainly isn’t big and bulky either).
If you were to look at the option of the two cars, yes, the BMW 3 Series is a winner and then you could look at some excellent small crossovers such as the diesel-powered Nissan QASHQAI, new Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson.
We would love to know which way you end up going.
