Australian car buyers can access some of the models named in a new list of the safest new cars for 2017.
The UK study, completed by Thatcham Research, found there’s more choice than ever in choosing a safe car with the manufacturers continuing to raise the safety bar.
The list of ten cars taken from the 2016 Euro NCAP ratings, while all also feature safety systems such as Autonomous Emergency Braking as standard (check Australian specifications).
Thatcham Research tell us the cars were then judged on market relevance and value for money.
Safest New Cars for 2017 (available in Australia):
- Alfa Romeo Giulia
- Audi Q2 (pictured above)
- Mercedes-Benz E-Class
- Peugeot 3008
- Toyota Prius
- Volkswagen Tiguan
While models not available in Australia were also named, these include the Ford Edge (coming to Australia in 2018), Renault Scenic, Seat Ateca, and Hyundai Ioniq.
“These ten vehicles represent some of the safest cars on sale in the UK today,” says Thatcham Research Chief Executive, Peter Shaw.
“We are delighted to see that by raising awareness of the important issues surrounding vehicle safety, manufacturers are starting to rise to our challenge of fitting safety as standard across all models, regardless of segment or price.”
