Australian bus sales drop in July 2016

July 2016 wasn’t a great month for light bus sales in Australia with sales of buses with capacities above and below 20 seats both experiencing a slip in sales.

VFACTS data shows that in July there were 192 sales of light buses with less than 20 seats.

That number represents a 9.0% decline on the 211 sales achieved in the same month last year. While for the first seven months of the year sales are down in the category by 13.4%.

In the larger 20+ seat capacity category, 31 vehicles were delivered last month, down from 50 in July 2015, or 38%! Sales in 2016 across the board have receded 10.5%.

The Toyota HiAce remained the dominate player in the lower capacity category. The Toyota ate up 82.3% of the market last month with 158 sales.

The Toyota offering finishing ahead of the Renault Master Bus (17), LDV V80 Bus (6), Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Bus (6) and Ford Transit Bus (5).

While in the larger capacity market it was the Mitsubishi Rosa Bus that triumphed. The Mitsubishi offering finding 20 sales in the month for a 64.5% market share.

Rival, Toyota Coaster, achieved 11 sales in the month.
