There may be a long way to go, however 2016 might have just been the start of a much bigger presence in the Australian car market for Chinese vehicle brands.
VFACTS data shows 2,927 Chinese built vehicles were delivered to Australian customers in 2016, that number representing a 26.2% increase on the 2015 total.
Interestingly, December was a particularly big month for the Chinese brands with 299 sales – 86.9% up on the same month in the previous year.

- Foton Light - 839 (-21.2%)
- HAVAL – 286 (new brand in Australia)
- Foton Trucks - 131 (-9.7%)
- Great Wall - 110 (-22.5%)
- Chery – 19 (-90.5%)
The most-popular Chinese-sourced model in Australia last year was the LDV G10.
The LDV van was delivered to 579 Australian customers (+216.4% on the models 2015 total).
