A healthy jump demand for Volkswagen SUVs helped the German car giants to a healthy 4% lift in global sales in July 2017.

Strong demand in China for Volkswagen vehicles also helped, however things weren’t quite as bright in Australia in the month - local sales were down 9.3% on July 2016.

Across the first seven months of 2017, Volkswagen sales in Australia receded by 3.1%, or about 1,800 vehicles.

In total, 467,000 Volkswagen brand vehicles were handed over to customers worldwide in July.

More than half of all Volkswagen sales (228,900) in the month occurred in China (+8.7%).

Some of the sales highlights included a 3.8% jump in demand across Europe, a 37.9% jump in Canada, and 17.6% increase in sales in South America.

Interestingly, sales in Volkswagen’s domestic market fell 14.2%, though the impending change over to the new-generation Polo is being partly to blame for the slip.

Demand for Volkswagen SUVs also continued to climb with Tiguan sales up 56.1% and Touareg sales skipping ahead 17.9%.

July 2017 Australian Car Sales Data – Volkswagen’s best-sellers:

Sales chief at Volkswagen, Jürgen Stackmann, says the July results are generally healthy.

“The positive trend in the Volkswagen brand’s deliveries continued in July and as a result, our figures for January to July are slightly higher than last year.

“Once again, a large share of this positive development is attributable to our SUV offensive.

“We intend to continue this trend during the course of the year with the upcoming model launches.”
