It is said to be the most powerful and cleanest SUVs on the planet and now buyers in the US can get their hands on the new Polestar-optimized Volvo XC90.
While not yet confirmed for Australia, we have contacted Volvo Cars Australia for clarification (see below for Australian update), the performance variant of the XC90 is based on the XC90 with the T8 Twin Engine.
The Polestar tuning takes total output to 313kW and 680Nm.
In all, five key areas of the Volvo’s drivetrain are tweaked and Volvo tell us the end result is improved throttle response, gearshift hold, speed and precision, as well as overall engine performance.
In announcing that the Volvo XC90 Polestar was available in the US, Volvo said the offering “reaches a new level of driving pleasure”.
Polestar is claiming a 0-100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds and despite performance fuel consumption remains as low as just 2.1L/100km and the XC90 hybrid still offers up to 43km of pure electric range.
Thed Bjork, reigning four-time Scandinavian Touring Car Championship winning driver, was part of the optimisation development and says the tweaked Volvo T8 hybrid engine delivers a stack of useable performance.
“It is amazing for me as a racing and development driver to be able to work with the same kind of technology and philosophy for the XC90 as with my S60 race car.
“While an SUV like the XC90 might be far from what we usually work with; the core of the optimisation is the very same thing. It is about creating driving pleasure and usable performance, something I definitely think we have achieved.”
News just in from Volvo Cars Australia: The Polestar Optimisation Pack is available and the recommended retail pricing is approximately $1,850.00 (dependent on dealer labour rate)(including GST) plus Luxury Car Tax.
