2018 Volkswagen Polo set to land

Fresh from a strong performance in 2017, Volkswagen Australia is set to be boosted further by the arrival of the all-new 2018 Volkswagen Polo.

And Volkswagen has just confirmed pricing for the new sixth-generation Polo will kick-off from just $17,990.

Arriving to take on ‘light car’ rivals like the big-selling Hyundai Accent, Mazda2, Kia Rio and Suzuki Swift, the Volkswagen Polo continues the trend of German cars growing with each generation.

How much has the Polo grown? Volkswagen say it shadows the proportions of a Volkswagen Golf from 20 years ago.

A five-star safety score has already been confirmed for the new offering, while Volkswagen has let us know that the new-gen model will be powered initially by a new 1.0 litre three cylinder turbo petrol engine.

A four-cylinder Polo GTI packing 147kW will come a little later in the year.

Transmission choice will be five-speed manual or seven-speed DSG automatic.

While standard kit across the range will include:

  • Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
  • Autonomous Emergency Braking
  • Touchscreen infotainment
  • Fatigue monitoring
  • Reverse camera

Commenting on the new Polo, Volkswagen Australia’s General Manager of Product and Marketing, Ben Wilks, tells us the new Polo has a lot more class than the competition.

“Even the entry level manual Polo 6 features the Golf’s elegant, flat bottomed leather wheel with multi-media controls,”

“That literal touchpoint is emblematic of the Polo having graduated from its class not only in terms of physical growth, but in sophistication.

“The Polo 6 is obviously more up-market than rival cars.”

We’ll be at the Australian launch of the new-generation Volkswagen Polo and will bring you further details and a review of the new car.

In the meantime, Volkswagen tell us their dealerships are now happily taking orders for the new car.
