The Freightliner story started in 1942 with the debut of the Freightliner Model 600 ‘Shovelnose’ (above), a model that introduced the industry’s first all-aluminium cab.

Western Star Trucks can trace its roots back 50 years to Canadian mining and logging operations.

While Detroit Diesel was formed by General Motors in 1938, the brand going on to make its name producing generators used extensively by the allies in World War 2.

In more recent years, under the ownership of Daimler, Detroit has expanded its range of products with the addition of axles, transmissions, active safety systems and connected vehicle services for the commercial transportation industry.

“I am very proud of our company’s rich history,” said Martin Daum, president and CEO, Daimler Trucks North America.

“We have a portfolio of brands that share a strong legacy of innovation.

“Over the past century we’ve grown to be an undisputed market leader, and as we celebrate our past, we’re looking forward to a future that pushes the boundaries of innovation.”
