2018 Renault Clio ROAD TEST AND REVIEW

2017 Renault Clio Review

Style looks to be the focus of the Renault Clio, but that doesn’t detract from the rest of the car.

When it comes to looks, the new Clio cannot be faulted.

It retains that distinctive French design style, with a new sporty edge, and the new style C-shaped LED headlights make it stand out from the herd in this segment of the market.

The body combines neat proportions with delicate styling, a look and feel that carries over to the well laid out and surprisingly spacious for a small car interior.

There is ample leg and head room in the front, but rear seating tends to be a little on the tight side, which is not unexpected in a car of its size.

Under the Bonnet

Powered by 1.2 litre turbo-petrol engine, it responds well to the driver’s command, and the six-speed automatic transmission is well balanced, both for city driving, and is a pleasure when cruising out on the highway.

It offers all the items that today’s buyer demands including power windows, mirrors, sat-nav, reversing camera, a good sound and climate control package, and all the other “bits & pieces”.

There are also multiple air bags, storage spaces, cup holders, and remote central locking. Incidentally the “key” is a flat credit card sized one.

The suspension is well tuned, and handles all normal road surfaces well.

But like all small cars, the “road furniture” or speed humps that seem to proliferate on our suburban roads do need some care.

While the Clio has 5-Star ANCAP rating, there are no side airbags for rear seat passengers, which is a feature Renault could well consider for future models.

While its price is a little higher that many competitors in this segment, considering its heritage, and Renault have been in the business of designing and building cars for over 125 years, it does delivery value for money, with the added element of French flair.

If you are looking for something with a touch of flair in a small car, this could be the time to say “oui” when out shopping for a new car.
