Kia shows first real-world images and reveals more details about new Rio…

There’s an all-new Kia Rio model about to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show and Kia UK has just released some more details on the new-generation model.

The additional info also comes with new real-world images of the new model.

The fourth-generation Kia Rio will boast new styling, including Kia’s tiger-nose’ grille, eight new paint colours and new alloy wheel designs too.

Inside the cabin, 2017 Kia Rio buyers can look forward to a more ergonomic look and feel, while the stretched external dimensions provide more interior space, including more front and rear legroom.

The new Rio also gets a new infotainment system with either 5” or 7” touchscreens and both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The updated info from Kia also provides more details on the range of engines that the model will be built with, in Australia though we are unlikely to be offered the full range of power plants.

2017 Kia Rio Engine Range:

  • 1.0 litre turbo-petrol (three-cylinder) producing 73kW
  • 1.0 litre turbo-petrol (three-cylinder) producing 87kW
  • 1.25 litre petrol producing 61kW/122Nm
  • 1.4 litre petrol producing 67kW/132Nm
  • 1.4 litre diesel producing 51kW
  • 1.4 litre diesel producing 61kW

Kia is yet to confirm information on the automatic transmissions available in the range, though five-speed and six-speed manual transmissions have been confirmed for specific engines.

Michael Cole is the boss of Kia in Europe, he says the new Rio will be a serious player in the market.

“It’s for these reasons that the current model has sold in record numbers around the world.

“The new model will build on these key strengths, with higher desirability, a more enjoyable drive and the most advanced safety features in its class.”
