2017 HAVAL H6 SUV Review

2017 Haval h6 road test and review

From the same outfit that brought us the Great Wall ute comes the HAVAL H6 medium size SUV.

They’re like chalk and cheese.

The Great Wall ute was, to be kind, underwhelming while the H6 is actually pretty good all things considered.

It’s available in two grades, Premium and Luxury for $29,990 and $33,990 respectively.

The 2017 HAVAL H6 certainly looks the part, has generous levels of kit and goes well into the bargain.

The front-wheel drive is a bit underdone as it’s too easy to spin the front wheels if you try and accelerate too hard from a standstill.

That’s unexpected from a vehicle sporting a six-speed dual-clutch transmission with paddle shift from none other than Getrag, a highly regarded name in automotive transmissions.

Power is supplied by a 2.0 litre, turbo-petrol four-cylinder rated at 145kW/315Nm.

The engine features direct fuel injection for efficiency gains and I would say, given the output numbers, is a seriously under stressed unit.

Depending on the model, H6 rolls on 17″ or 19″ alloys.

It has some advanced driver assist technology including blind spot monitoring, front and rear park assist, reverse camera and tyre pressure monitoring.

Comfort goodies include auto headlights, keyless start and entry, dual zone climate control, heated seats front and rear, sunroof and other feel good features.

On the road the HAVAL H6 looks good at least the equal or better than some of its direct competitors of which there are many.

It rides with a surprising level of dexterity and certainly not the sloppy ride expected. On the other hand steering feel needs work.

Fuel consumption is rated at 9.8L/100km which is more than expected and more than I achieved on test. The test vehicle was clicking over 8.8 when I handed it back. Go figure.

H6 offers plenty of room inside in three rows, the rear of which folds completely out of the way forming a decent size load space.

Overall impressions of the H6 are positive as it points to better things to come from HAVAL which is working on appointing more dealers and is seriously paying attention to its main competitors in the market.

Talk a deal and the H6 could be for you.
