2016 a stellar year for BMW Group

The BMW Group is celebrating what was a memorable year for the auto manufacturer in 2016.

Sales data released by the group today shows across its three brands – BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce, sales increased 5.3% with more than 2.3 million deliveries.

At BMW, sales for the luxury brand increased 5.2% with 2,003,359 global sales.

Remarkably, more than one in three BMW vehicles sold last year was an SUV with sales in the division jumping ahead by 22.3%!

Some of the other sales stars for BMW in the year included BMW 2 Series (+24.8%) and 7 Series (+69.2%).

MINI achieved its best-ever sales results with a total of 360,233 vehicles delivered to customers, an increase of 6.4%.

And as already reported, Rolls-Royce had one of its best year’s on record with 4,011 sales (+6.0%).

In Australia things were just as positive for the group in 2016.

BMW sales skipped ahead 12.0%, MINI found 12.7% more customers and sales jumped ahead 23.3%.

2016 Car Sales Data – Rolls-Royce:

  • Rolls-Royce Coupe/Conv - 25 (+66.7%)
  • Rolls-Royce Sedan - 12 (-20.0%)

“As our model line-up has expanded, so have our sales, making 2016 our most successful year ever,” commented Dr Ian Robertson, Sales and Marketing chief at BMW.

“Despite headwinds in some markets, our policy of balanced global sales has paid off, as we increased our worldwide sales month by month,”

“The sales development of our electrified vehicles has been particularly positive, with more than 62,000 delivered in 2016.

“I am confident we can continue this momentum and build on our course of profitable, sustainable growth into 2017.”
