Our Car of the Week is the 2015 Maserati Ghibli.
As you may have noticed our Car of the Week is often an offering that may not pop immediately into your mind.
The 2015 Maserati Ghibli would fit comfortably into this category despite the fact that Maserati sales are actually roaring ahead in Australia in 2015.
There are four Maserati models available in Australia, the Maserati Ghibli being the most affordable offering in the range.
Priced from $138,900, the Maserati Ghibli range is offered in three variants with the standard Ghibli available with a 202kW/600Nm 3.0 litre V6 turbo-diesel.
An extra $1,000 gets you the same car, except under the bonnet is a 243kW/500Nm 3.0 litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine.
That same engine features in the flagship Maserati Ghibli S, an offering that kicks-off from $169,900.
The 0-100km/h time for the diesel is listed at 6.3 seconds, the turbo-petrol covers the sprint in 5.3 seconds.
All variants of the Italian-built four-door sports car are rear-wheel drive only and an eight-speed automatic transmission is standard.
If you are concerned about fuel economy the turbo-diesel uses a combined a 5.9L/100km and that is quite astounding. The petrol is the thirstier but is quoted at a still quite reasonable 9.6L/100km combined.
Opt for a “base-model” Ghibli and you will enjoy standard features including;
- 18″ Alloy Wheels
- Powered adjustable steering column
- Powered rear and rear-side window blinds
- Four-spot brake calipers front and back
- DVD Player
- Reverse camera
Want more? Well, of course you can have more! The optional extras list for the Maserati Ghibli includes such as luxuries as;
- Carbon Fibre Interior Trim - $4,492
- Responsive Suspension - $5,303
- 20” alloy wheels - $5,091
- Heated Wood/Leather Steering Wheel - $2,897
- Full Premium Poltrone Frau Leather - $6,363
A Maserati sold in Australia features a three year warranty, at this stage there isn’t an ANCAP safety rating for the 2015 Maserati Ghibli.
So there you go, another Behind the Wheel Car of the Week. If you’re in the market for a luxury saloon and a Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Jaguar, Lexus or Audi are just not exotic enough then you have an alternative in the Maserati Ghibli.
