We took a look at another model in the Kia Cerato range – the 2015 Kia Cerato Si which is the second highest of four variants.

It’s also the lower spec with the bigger 2.0L direct fuel injection engine beefed up from the 1.8L multi-point injection engine in the two S grade models.

Oddly, the acceleration in the lower grade S Premium I drove last week has more punch to it than the Si especially off the mark. However, the S Premium does have a lower gear ratio which means better power in the low end.

But the Kia Cerato Si has longer legs due to an output of 129kW/209Nm, and it doesn’t over-rev itself like it’s little brother.

The Si also was slightly heavier on fuel of course at 8.4L/100km during my week’s worth of driving.

But I’m nit-picking; in the greater scheme of things this is negligible and you’d be happy to drive either one.

So aside from the engine, what’s different about the Kia Cerato Si? Let’s take a look.

The Cerato Si variant comes with:

  • Smart keyless entry and push button start
  • Door handle lamps with chrome highlights
  • Electric folding mirrors with puddle lamps
  • UV cut glass and aero-blade wipers
  • Faux carbon fibre dash trim
  • and leather trim seats

But the coolest feature to my mind are the wing mirrors that automatically swing out and turn on the lamps as you approach the car. This enhances to the already handy smart keyless entry.

Other small differences include a chrome tip muffler, A/C air vents for rear passengers and an extendable centre arm rest adding to comfort levels.

Storage is pretty much the same; you get a rear seat pocket on the passenger side.

For those wanting a little bit more, there’s the top of the line SLi which includes: auto dimming rear view mirror, daytime running lights and HID lamps, powers seats, sports pedals, cooling glovebox, sunroof and paddle shifters in the auto version. All of this with the same 2.0L GDI engine under the bonnet.

All in all there are small differences in the way the Si drives compared with the S models. It comes down to personal preference whether you choose that over a few extra luxuries.

The Kia Cerato Si price starts from $28,990.
