Of all the very many cars I have driven and reviewed over the years the 2015 Jaguar F-TYPE S Coupe has drawn the most stares and appreciation from fellow motorists and pedestrians.

I was lucky enough to get along to the Jaguar F-TYPE Australian launch in 2013 and now, in late 2015, Jaguar has just added a manual transmission option to the supercharged V6 variants.

Jaguar Australia handed me the keys to the new combination and suffice to say I had a very memorable and enjoyable week in the British brands famed sports car.

There are two supercharged V6 engines on offer, one offers 250kW/450Nm and the other gives 280kW/460Nm, there’s also the 404kW/680Nm supercharged V8 version and you can also choose between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

The car I had was powered by the higher-output V6 mated to a six-speed manual transmission – that’s a combo priced from $151,380.

With zero to 100km/h sprint time of just 5.5 seconds the Jaguar F-TYPE has the pace to match the looks.

On start-up (via the red pulsating Start button in the lower console), there’s a brilliant burble from the exhaust. Press another button that activates the active exhaust setting and the sound is music to the ears of everyone and anyone who loves cars.

There’s also the purposeful whine of the supercharger and an intoxicating snap crackle and pop from the exhaust as you lift off the accelerator.

So, sounds great and goes great, how’s the handling? Brilliant! The Pirelli tyres stick like glue and the handling is precise and confidence inspiring. Best of all, this is a sports car that also provides a more than acceptable ride and that makes it an even more enjoyable experience.

The steering is lightning fast with under two and a half turns side to side and there’s plenty of communication between tarmac and driver.

The Jaguar F-TYPE manual transmission offers a short throw and the feel is firm and precise. The manual transmission though isn’t without fault. I found that it really didn’t take too kindly to being hurried along. When used at a normal pace, it slots in nicely, but sports shifting is not its forte.

Brake feel is sensational, with bite at the top of the pedal and without any sudden grabbing.

Fuel economy isn’t great, though I doubt that will be too much of an issue for the average F-TYPE buyer. Expect to use north of thirteen litres per 100km in the city, though a freeway sprint will see you consume as little as half that.

Inside the F-TYPE there is seating for two. The overall feel is quality, though a couple of elements, such as the steering wheel and some of the control dials, knobs and switches probably don’t quite meet expectations.

There are a number of small storage spots around the cabin and boot space is at a minimum.

Summing it up: the 2015 Jaguar F-TYPE is not just a car, this is a creation that is sure to be a classic.

If your budget only runs to a supercharged V6 version, then you will not miss out in anyway on the fun. The exhaust note, acceleration, ride and overall feel of this vehicle is smile inducing.

And be prepared for plenty of stares and head-turning as you make your way down the street.
