1.2 litre turbo-petrol engine comes to Renault Kangoo

New 84kW/190Nm engine joins the 2017 Renault Kangoo range…

An updated turbocharged petrol engine is on offer in the 2017 Renault Kangoo van.

Renault this evening confirmed the new all-aluminium turbo-petrol engine would be replacing the previous 1.6 litre petrol engine in the Kangoo range.

While the existing 1.5 litre turbo-diesel powertrain remains.

The same engine as found in the Renault Clio, Captur and Megane, the 1.2 litre unit produces 84kW (at 4,500rpm) and 190Nm (between 2,000-4,000rpm).

It also comes with a 10kg weight saving, thanks to the all-aluminium construction.

That weight saving helps the 2017 Renault Kangoo use as little as 6.2L/100km of petrol, a figure that is down about 20% on the old engine.

Mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed dual-clutch (EDC) auto, 2017 prices will start from $23,490.

“This new powertrain is a significant change for the Kangoo,” says Lyndon Healey, Senior Model Line Manager for Renault Light Commercial Vehicles.

“The Kangoo isa good product at the right price, backed with the service and parts support that customers in this segment demand.

“This new petrol-powered Kangoo continues to offer all this and more.”
