Interior rethink with autonomous cars

If our cars are going to be doing the driving for us, do we need a car interior the same as what we have in today’s vehicles?

Yanfeng Automotive Interiors (YFAI), one of the world’s leading car interior designers/manufacturers, say the answer to that question is a simple “No”.

The YFAI designers tell us the inside of our cars is about to change, and change dramatically.

As shown in the image above, YFAI say their concept design shows how autonomous driving can allow us to have a more flexible car interior with more personal space and a greater opportunity to relax, work, or watch a movie.

“We are answering the question of what will be done in the future in our car once it is no longer necessary to drive it,” said Han Hendriks, Chief Technology Officer at YFAI.

“In the future, the car, as the driver will no longer have to drive, will become a real living room.”

The YFAI futuristic interior concept will be on display at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

What are your thoughts on autonomous cars?

  • Are you excited about not having to drive?
  • Or are you a long way from trusting a car to get you safely where you need to go?
