When we talk air filters, chances are you think about the thing that keeps dust and other contaminants out of your engine.

But what about making sure the air you breathe inside your car’s cabin is also clean?

The non-profit Car Care Council has asked us to remind you that cabin air filters should be inspected and changed regularly to ensure interior comfort.

Rich White from the Car Care Council says the cabin air filter is responsible for cleaning the air entering the passenger compartment.

“Under normal circumstances, it helps trap pollen, bacteria, dust and exhaust gases that may find their way into a vehicle’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system, compromising interior air quality and damaging the system.

“A cabin air filter should not be cleaned and reinstalled. Instead, it should be replaced every 20,000 to 25,000kms, or per the owner’s manual.”
