ATA calls for government action on payment terms

ATA CEO says government needs to protect small businesses…

It is a problem for all small businesses, but especially for truck owners – cash flow.

Now, the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) is calling on the government to provide some assistance to small trucking businesses to help them with growing extended payment times.

The calls come after the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman released a report that recommends best payment practise industry codes should be implemented, including set payment times/terms.

The recently appointed Chair of the ATA, Geoff Crouch, says those codes could make life a lot easier for the thousands of small transport businesses operating in Australia.

“The trucking industry consists almost entirely of small businesses with 98% of road freight transport businesses having 19 employees or fewer.

“However, in the trucking industry, some big business customers are demanding payment terms of up to 120 days,”

“The ATA has been calling for extended payment times to be fixed and now the small business ombudsman has backed the need for the Government to act.”

We will bring you more details on this issue as they come to hand.
