Another safety tick for new-gen BMW 5 Series

U.S. authorities gives BMW 5 Series top safety score…

The all-new BMW 5 Series has got off to a good start in Australia with April sales up an astonishing 458% over the same month last year.

Now comes further reassurance for Australian buyers that the latest new BMW offering also has the safety credentials to match the good looks and extensive features list – a top safety pick+ rating.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the U.S. has named the 2017 BMW 5 Series as among the safest cars available this year.

The crash test authority reports that the 5 Series performed well in five different crash tests and this qualified the car for the Institute’s highest rating.

While models fitted with the optional front crash prevention system were upgraded to a ‘Superior’ rating.

That safety technology is also optional on lower-spec BMW 5 Series models here and carries a $1,200 price premium.

The news of the top safety score in the U.S. comes after the model, in the 520d grade, was recently awarded a five-star ANCAP safety rating.
