Second RAM recall this week

Another possible electrical fault has been identified in RAM Trucks sold in Australia.

Coming just days after a separate recall was initiated to fix a possible issue with the indicators, a small number of RAM Trucks are now also being recalled so technicians can have a look at the Occupant Restraint Control (ORC) module.

This recall is also being overseen by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and affects RAM 1500, 2500 and 3500 Trucks sold in Australia by American Special Vehicles.

Only six vehicles in total are affected and they carry the following VINS:

  • 3C63R3EL7FG617575
  • 3C6UR5FLXFG623031
  • 3C63R3EL3EG329700
  • 3C6UR5DL4FG623030
  • 3C63R3JL4FG625137
  • 3C6UR5KLXFG619146

The recall notice advises that the Occupant Restraint Control (ORC) module on the vehicles may activate a diagnostic trouble code (DTC).

This is due to external stimulus which disables the ORC ability to sense vehicle rollover events.

What are the hazards?

In the event the ORC module is disabled for a rollover situation, the loss of air bag deployment capability during a crash may increase the risk of injury or death.

Owners should contact their authorised RAM Truck dealer who will inspect and reprogram the ORC module with new software.
