Fresh looks for 2018 Altima

Trying to sell a car, even a really good one, in the medium-size passenger car segment in Australia is not an exercise for the faint-hearted.

Just ask Ford (Mondeo), Kia (Optima), Hyundai (i40 and Sonata), Mazda (Mazda6) and Skoda (Octavia).

All those offerings are terrific cars, but none can take more than about 7% of the total market.

Why? There’s a vehicle called the Toyota Camry that chews up a dominant 60% plus market share!

It was no surprise then that the Nissan Altima didn’t make it here.

In April, Nissan confirmed it was dropping the Altima after only a trickle of monthly sales for the offering through 2016 and early 17.

The latest iteration of the Nissan Pulsar met the same fate.

The lack of interest came despite a significant investment in the model by Nissan by way of the Supercars.

Ironically, Nissan is set to continue racing the Altima in next year’s Supercars championship.

These spy shots of the 2018 Nissan Altima have just been published by Automotive News.

The images show a completely new look for the model (ironically, one of Nissan USA’s best-selling offerings).

While the publication says the car gets a new-look interior, including updated infotainment system and a flat-bottom steering wheel.
