All-new Accord shown in Detroit

Here’s your first look at the all-new 2018 Honda Accord.

Revealed just now in Detroit, the 10th generation Accord is new from the ground up and is said to be a car that will make a serious play for midsize passenger car buyers in the U.S. and many other markets.

At this stage though, even though Honda Australia wants the car, there’s no confirmation or guarantee that we will see it here.

2018 Honda Accord whiteIn unveiling the new model, which does away with a V6 petrol engine, Honda USA said their new car boasts a lighter and more rigid body structure in a vehicle that has a more sophisticated, sleek and athletic design.

Compared to the outgoing model, the new U.S.-built Honda Accord features a wheelbase that is more than 50mm longer, the new model also gets a lower roofline (-15mm), and its about 10mm wider.

The engines on offer will include a 187kW/370Nm 2.0 litre turbo engine, almost the same engine as that found in the 2017 Civic Type R.

Mated to that engine will be a new 10-speed auto transmission, said to be a first for a front-wheel drive car.

A six-speed manual will be available in the ‘Sports’ model.

Honda’s versatile 1.5 litre turbo-petrol engine, as found in models like the Civic, HR-V and new-gen CR-V will also be available.

The 143kW/260Nm engine coming with a choice of CVT auto or six-speed manual.

While U.S. buyers will also have the option of a new Accord with a hybrid powertrain – outputs for the hybrid are yet to be confirmed though.

As you might expect, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will also feature and Honda tell us the new car has a larger boot too, even the hybrid.
