2018 Audi A8 to debut tonight

Final countdown to A8 showing

We’ve been bringing you updates on the all-new Audi A8, now comes the final piece of the puzzle with the official complete unveiling of the new car coming tonight.

Just ahead of that debut, Audi has let us know a little more about some of the technologies they’re building into the new-gen A8.

The latest tech reveal for the model is active suspension.

Audi tell us the system uses the front-mounted camera to detect road imperfections and then adjusts individual electric motors for each wheel to best cater for the changes in the road surface.

Safety hasn’t been forgotten either – the system will instantly raise the car up by 80mm if the cameras detect that a side-impact is imminent.

Audi say this sees the forces of the collision directed to the stronger areas of the luxury saloon, such as side sills and floor structure, and reduces the load on the occupants by up to 50%.

The new 2018 Audi A8 will also come with all-wheel steering, which Audi says helps the luxury saloon boast a turning-circle smaller than the A4.

The Audi Active Suspension system is powered by the car’s new 48-volt electrical system.
